For example, research in human development has helped us understand the importance of the bond between parent and infant in shaping the quality of future relationships, how parenting can affect physical, emotional, and cognitive growth in children, how physical and mental activity can slow cognitive decline among older adults, how digital technology can impact identity development and peer relationships, how culture can shape language and communication, and how temperament and environment can influence social and emotional development. In the course of understanding development, professionals in developmental psychology can determine the types of support that can contribute to healthy human development and
